Costa offers Iemma ultimatum

30/08/2008 9:27:00 AM.  | Victoria Owens

Premier Morris Iemma has been issued with an ultimatum that could see the treasurer quit before the end of the year.

Michael Costa has threatened to quit within the next ten weeks unless the Iemma government adopts his new mini-budget.

But there's widespread controversy over the budget reforms which call for job cuts for bureaucrats, a restructure of the public sector and the privatisation of rail maintenance and ferries.

The Opposition says the NSW State Government is imploding.

Liberal leader Barry O’Farrell says it's just childish behaviour from an increasingly dysfunctional government.

“Labor’s at war with itself.”

“Morris Iemma can’t rely on the support of his own MPs,” he said.

“Decisions are based on trying to sure-up Mr Iemma’s weak leadership.”

“Putting political interest ahead of what’s best for this state is why people no longer trust this government.”

It doesn't work, Costa. You aren't Costello. You don't have Costello's talent, nor his competence. Costello made sound but brave choices. You are drowning in your own self interest and self promotion.

When they retire i would prefer they received nothing if they have sold out their constituants, sold off their jobs, sold their country, lined their own nests while pretending to govern for all.... Nil productivity = Nill pension. Most employee's out here in tax payers land, are expected to be professional, efficient and productive, why not pollies?

We all know that there are some hard core left labor voters on this site and in the last couple of months I've noticed that even they have abandoned this pathetic bunch of NSW idiots, what does that say about the strife we are in, when even their hard core one eyed supporters won't follow them. What i don't understand is why we the people of NSW have not gathered on mass in the streets demanded that they be sacked as a government?????
