Federal Police Commissioner Mick Keelty says he stands by the AFP's handling of the Mohamed Haneef affair after a closed in inquiry in Canberra
After nearly four hours, Commissioner Mick Keelty has emerged from giving evidence to the inquiry into the AFP’s actions into the failed terrorism case against Mohamed Haneef.
Federal police arrested the Indian doctor last year, in relation to the botched terrorism attacks in the UK – but the charges were later dropped due to lack of evidence.
Lawyers for Dr Haneef have been highly critical of the AFP’s handling of the affair – but commissioner Keelty says he’s standing by his organisation.
“I cooperated fully with the inquiry, the AFP has cooperated fully with the inquiry.”
Today’s hearing has been closed to media.
Commissioner Keelty says he’ll make a formal public statement soon.
