The Penrith Panthers have confirmed coach Matt Elliott will remain as coach next season, after the Panthers Board unanimously voted to keep him at the club.
“I am delighted with the support, but like the Board I am disappointed with out season this year, particularly the last six weeks,” he told LIVENEWS.com.au.
“I’m really committed to the Penrith cause and I can’t wait to enjoy some of the success.”
Elliott had been asked to plead his case to the club’s board yesterday, after widespread rumours he would be axed after a disappointing season.
But the Board today confirmed the coach’s position was safe.
“Today we had a board meeting to review our performance of season 2008,” the club said in a statement.
“Whilst we acknowledge that there were disappointing aspects of the season we see a positive future.
“The Board unanimously re-affirmed Matt Elliott will remain our coach for 2009.”
Elliott has one year remaining on a three-year deal with the Panthers.
