Private health funds are offering former members the chance to return, as the Rudd Government's plans to raise the Medicare levy threshold face defeat.
The Medicare levy surcharge was to be increased $50,000, to $150,000 for couples, and doubled to $100,000 for singles.
But after more than two months, the plan looks headed for defeat in the Senate.
As a result, private health insurers HCF, Bupa and Medibank Private are giving former members who scrapped their cover on the announcement, a chance to come back, without penalty.
There's no word on how long the amnesty will last.
