A carp-filled fish pond is so last week… so today in Sydney's Circular Quay, a water feature complete with beautiful girls was unveiled as part of the month long celebrations of 30 Days of Fashion and Beauty.

Passers-by were treated to long-legged, mermaid-esque beauties floating in a giant tank, being photographed by Daniel Smith.

"It's fairly hard to look glamorous under water. We had to get specialist make up that doesn't run,” Smith told Reuters.

"The hair and the hands can go everywhere, the success rate is less, so you just take more pictures."

Bondi Rescue lifeguard Tom Bunting kept an eagle-eye on his celebrity swimmers, who included model Nikki Phillips, CLEO Bachelor of the year Jason Dundas, and Jaynie Seal.

Most of the celebs took cautiously to the tank, except for Dundas who was boldly somersaulting and pulling faces at the hundreds of spectators.
