Dark Knight studio plan re-release to coincide with Oscars

It seems the makers of The Dark Knight are determined to bag themselves an Oscar.

Studio plans have been revealed to re-release the blockbuster in January next year, during the height of the Academy Awards voting season.

“It’s a matter of bringing it back as reminder for the people,” an insider said.

Warner Bros have admitted they’re expecting up to 10 Oscars for the Batman sequel.

The studio’s domestic distribution president, Dan Fellman, says there have been discussions with IMAX executives to restore Heath Ledger’s last full film into giant venues in January.

So far The Dark Knight is the second-highest grossing movie ever, after Titanic.

The Batman sequel has generated profits of $512 million domestically, $440 million internationally and $55 million in IMAX grosses.

A pre-Oscars re- release could send grossings to a total of $1 billion worldwide.
