Channel 7 star Grant Denyer has been taken to hospital after crashing a monster truck during an attempted stunt today.
Denyer was doing a demonstration jump over five wrecked cars, a preview of the NSW Monster Truck Championships at Dapto, when the accident occured.
A statement from Channel 7 said the five and a half tonne, two and a half metre high monster truck landed heavily following the jump, badly jarring Denyer's back.
He was taken to Wollongong Hospital, where doctors discovered he has a crushed lower vertebrae. He will stay there for further tests tonight.
Grant's manager, David Wilson, said it looks like it'll be some time before he gets back behind the wheel.
"He's in a stable condition at the moment. He's heavily sedated," Mr Wilson said.
"He was scheduled to be driving in the Bathurst 1000. Obviously that's not likely at all at this point in time."
The owner of the monster truck, Clive Featherby, told Fairfax the huge truck landed heavily because Denyer took his foot off the accelerator too early.
"He lost a bit too much momentum and that's why it landed so hard," he said.
"The poor bugger was lying under the truck while we were waiting for the ambulance and he was apologising to me."
Denyer, who is an accomplished race driver, had planned to compete in the Bathurst 1000 next month but the injury may prevent him from participating.
