Courts forced Jenning into suicide: Nitschke

19/09/2008 7:14:00 PM.  | Richard Maxton with AAP

One of two Sydney women convicted over the euthanasia drug killing of former Qantas pilot Graeme Wylie has taken her own life.

Euthanasia advocate Phillip Nitschke today said Caren Jenning, 75, overdosed last night with the euthanasia drug Nembutal, which is banned in Australia.

"She died last night after taking Nembutal," Dr Nitschke said.

"She left a detailed statement about the reasons why she chose to take this course."

Euthanasia campaigner and friend Doctor Phillip Nitschke has told 2GB's Philip Clark she should have never been put in this position.

"Her own disease process was worsening in her own case and she could see nothing really at the end other than a peaceful death where she was in control."

Jenning was suffering from terminal cancer.

Jenning and her friend Shirley Justins were convicted in June over the death of Mr Wylie. Both were due to be sentenced on October 7.

Didn't she go to Court because the Law tried to prevent suicides?.

These people who take their life are sending us a message. My life belongs to me and me only and if I want to finish it it is my business only and not yours.End of story. You can legislate as much as you like. Rest in peace Caren.

I do not trust humans to legislate euthenasia because I believe it would be open to abuse, but I do trust myself to take care of my own life should I need to. Who in the hell would want to grow old in our society anyway, not me. Take a look around at how we treat them, sick or healthy, they are shoved aside and dismissed as use by date is up..as for euthenasia , legislation would be a mine field trying to ensure the vulnerable were not left open to devious human flaws. To this lady, RIP.
