Star City to get massive tourism makeover

24/09/2008 1:04:00 PM.  | Victoria Owens
Sydney's tourism industry is set to receive a major boost under a half a billion dollar expansion to Star City casino.

The major revamp will turn the casino's entrance towards the harbour and add an extra five star hotel building, a retail galleria and more restaurants and bars.

Tabcorp's chief of Casino's Walter Bugno says the major expansion will better equip the casino to compete on a local and international stage.

“We’ve conducted a world wide benchmarking review, have brought in a mix of the best local architects and international designers, and have undertaken discussions with some of the leading global leisure and entertainment brands.”

The revamp of Star City might be the shot in the arm that NSW and Australian tourism needs. If this doesn't bring in the high-rollers to Sydney, nothing will. Perhaps in the near future Sydney could look forward to the likes of Richard Branson and Donald Trump bidding to bring in extreme sports, martial arts and celebrity poker tours to our very own Star City. A bit more of this sort of thing, and 'Australia' the movie, and we might be ready for more shrimps on the barbie. Packer, your shout.
