Man drives to hospital with bullet in his head

25/09/2008 6:56:00 AM.  | AAP
A Melbourne man will appear in court on Thursday charged with attempted murder after his alleged victim drove himself to hospital with a bullet in the back of his head.

The 25-year-old man told police he was attacked by two men when he left a female friend's home in Melbourne's north-west to walk to a nearby petrol station to buy some cigarettes on August 12.

While scuffling with his attackers, the Hoppers Crossing man was shot once in the back of the head but managed to run to his car and drive away.

"It's alleged the victim was approached by two men before a scuffle broke out and the victim has fallen to the ground after being shot," police spokeswoman Sharon Darcy said.

"Following the incident, the injured man was able to drive himself to Werribee Mercy Hospital for treatment."

The victim was later transferred to the Royal Melbourne Hospital for treatment after the bullet lodged behind his left ear.

Senior Constable Darcy said Robert Goldson, of Melton, appeared before a bail justice at an out-of-sessions hearing on Wednesday night following his arrest in Caroline Springs.

Goldson, 24, was remanded in custody to appear before Melbourne Magistrates' Court to face one attempted murder charge and other assault-related charges.
