Man pulled from Sydney fire planned to destroy supermarket

28/09/2008 1:00:00 PM.  | Amie Meehan
A court's been told a man charged with possessing explosives had planned to destroy a supermarket in Sydney’s east.

The 54-year-old was dramatically rescued from the window of his burning unit on Edgecliffe Road at Woolhara yesterday, with the counter terrorism unit and bomb squad brought in after chemicals were discovered.

Police allege he was unhappy over a Coles compensation claim and had planned to burn down the supermarket at Westfield Bondi Junction.

He's been formally refused bail, and will face court again next month.

He needn't worry about his burnt out unit, I think he'll alternative lodgings in a nice safe nut house for a while.
