Scientologists using historic Victorian property rent free

29/09/2008 1:15:00 PM.  | LIVENEWS.com.au
There have been objections towards a Scientology-linked drug group exclusively using one of Victoria’s grand historic properties rent free.

Parks Victoria manages O'Shannassy Lodge, in the Yarra Ranges, as well as hundreds of other properties on behalf of the Victorian public.

They have allowed Narconon, a drug rehabilitation program based on the teachings of L. Ron Hubbard, the Church of Scientology founder, to work out of the lodge rent free – although they have to pay maintenance fees.

David Crosbie, the chief executive of Mental Health Council Australia and a member of the Prime Minister's National Council on Drugs doesn’t agree with the deal.

"Whoever can best use those facilities in the public interest should do so. I don't think the current situation should continue there," Mr Crosbie told The Age.

The exact details of the deal haven’t been made public, but Parks Victoria has said maintenance costs of the property are significant, and would usually have to be covered by taxpayers.

Narconon’s drug rehabilitation programs have been ridiculed by critics, who say they are as just a ‘predatory’ front for the Church of Scientology.

Despite Narconon licensing materials written by L. Ron Hubbard in the 1960s, Narconon employees are NOT Scientologists. This sham of a "news" story cites unknown, unnamed "critics". This is gossip, not journalism.

Yes, it would certainly discredit Narconon (tm) if it had anything to do with that exploitative cult.

Dear Journalist: How many other groups have similar contracts with the government down there. 5, 10, 100, 500? Is there a reason to single out this group? To Mr. Crosbie: may I ask why a mental health person is commenting here... except to peddle more drugs to those trying to get off them? The agenda is pretty obvious. Do you want users to be drug free, on on some form of drug for life? Oh! I forgot! drug addiction is now a mental illness, which coloured people are more genetically at risk, eh?

JD. I think this narconon is being singled out because its a pseudoscience scam that is tightly linked to the scientology cult, and not regarded as a legitimate health service. It's certainly not regarded as effective by real anti-drug experts. It's basically a recruitment and PR front. I hope that answers your question.

Narconon is giving an important service to the community by getting people off drugs and getting them back into society as drug free individuals. This kid of group should be helped as when they win everybody wins.

Narconon is a very experimental treatment, condemned by health professionals, run by a "church" which abuses it members. The doses of Niacin and vitamins that are given to drug abusers can cause heath problems of their own not to mention the pressure placed on Narconon patients to join the church of scientology. Their staff are scientologists - anyone in disagreement probably is a scientologist as this fact can be confirmed with Google & 15 seconds of your time. This cult needs to be banned.

Narconon is a dangerous, uncertified sham and its sole purpose is recruiting the vulnerable into Scientology. Search for Narconon Exposed at YouTube and stop being ignorant.

Saying that staff at Narconon are not scientologists is the same as saying Tom Cruise is not a scientologist. It's a flat out lie. Forcing addicts to consume near-lethal amounts of niacin washed down with vegetable oil while spending hours and hours and hours in a sauna is not a "treatment". If the scientologists keep saying all the news coming out lately is a lie, then why can't they just tell the TRUTH? Maybe because the truth is already out there and they're too brainwashed to see it?

Narconon is Scientology: The "detox treatment" is dangerous Scientology's "Purification Rundown" (described by the Church of Scientology as "a Spiritual activity based on and administered according to the doctrine and practices of the religion of Scientology"); other parts of Narconon program are Scn "Training Routines," "Student Hat" etc., all of which are Scn courses (qualified as contributions for religious 'donations.') See the reference research about this at narconon-exposed [dot] com.

Former Surgeon General C. Everett Koop had this to say about Scientology/Narconon's "purification" process as described in the book, "Diet for a Poisoned Planet", "My recommendation about detoxification is to keep away from it. You don't need it. I'm not sure it does what this book describes. It's dangerous. I don't think L. Ron Hubbard has credibility in the scientific world. The author's suggestions about detoxification can be detrimental to your health. " - C. Everett Koop, M.D.

I was shocked when I read about this group using rent-free properties like this! Narconon is, without a doubt, a Scientology front-group. It is costly, tedious, and does not work! If it did work, then -real- doctors would be integrating it into their work... but that hasn't been done! Any research of this program has proven that is does not work, and that Scientology lies about its success rates... Why would they do that, if not to make money? This cult is already tax-exempt, why should they no

J D, your ties to the cult are obvious. One can easily identify a $cientologist by their comments which tend to clearly reflect their programmed thought patterns. They've been brainwashed to believe that anyone who opposes their cult wants to drug everybody and is paid to oppose them by the pharmaceutical industry and that any negative media attention about the cult is just part of some kind of global conspiracy against them. Bunch of paranoid schizophrenics!

I would ask people to please, please look into how the Narconon program has hurt people. Narconon at Stonehawk has had awful results with this program. Scientology also has a Criminon program that doesn't help people at all. IT"S ALL ABOUT THE MONEY. Please find out what you are making available to the public, yet again tax free, rent free.

Don't be fooled by a "Rehab" program that can produce no peer reviewed studies regarding its effectiveness. L. Ron Hubbard made up all of his theories, including how to get off drugs, while high on drugs. Whatever popped into his head, he would write down. If you really start to investigate, you will find the Cult of Scientology has its' filthy hands all over this fake drug rehab program. Don't get sucked in.

What do you care if Narconon is a recruiter for Scientology? If they want drug abusers in their group, better for you and me. Give 'em all your druggies. Hell, give 'em your hard-core criminals, too.

Mental Health Council of Australia is Big Pharma money. http://www.theage.com.au/news/national/mental-health-takes-industry-pills/2006/08/07/1154802820416.html Most current drug rehab in the mental health area means taking people off street drugs and putting them on "medication". How much money is the government paying for this??

Scientology is a predatory corporate organization, and I believe it should be banned from operating in Australia. Narconon, CCHR -- all these front groups should be forbidden from operating in our country. Enough is enough! Everyone knows what Scientology is up to, and the social threat it poses is severe.

There is no free ride everybody knows the cost of upkeep of properties such as these are expensive and a rental deal would have been much cheaper than this lease what a cheap shot and by who? a mental health chief no surprises there. Natural medicine is on the rise there is a naturopath on every corner are they also cult groups. Grow up the FDA have already adopted DNA testing because 30% of us are allergic and unable to have many pharma drugs and natural options are the only way!!!

What the hell? Why was the norotiously criminal Scientology corporation allowed to get away with this? Their fraudulent quack medical scam they call "NarCONon" is not accreditated anywhere in the world, and no insurance carrier covers their scam for very specific reasons -- it's fake. It doesn't work. It rooks and swindles money out of people and if anything makes people worse according to all scientific evidence and clinical testing. My opinions only and only my opinions, as always.

Also there is no excuse for people falling for Scientology's "NarCONon" any more. It's all available on the Internet and there is no excuse for people getting suckered in -- not politicians who allow these people to do what they do, and not victims who hand over their money. http://www.crackpots.org/ is just one of the many web sites that carries detailed, evidenced information about what this "NarCONon" fake front is, what it does, why it does not work, and why it must be avoided. My opinions

I used to protest with a group called Anonymous against Scientology, but I have since discovered that Scientology, like other religions, is actually doing good work. In my own research on Narconon I found that they actually purchased the lease from a party who could not afford to maintain the property, and have themselves maintained it very well. I also found many people who have found salvation from drugs with Narconon and for alot of them it was their last hope. They deserve your support.
