Immigration officials are searching for dozens of World Youth Day pilgrims, who are in Australia illegally, three months after the July event.
About 100,000 international visitors came to Sydney for World Youth Day, and nearly 1,000 are still here.
Only 740 are holding valid visas – most of which will expire around the middle of this month.
The immigration department has confirmed 200 pilgrims have applied to have their three month visas extended, but 31 are apparently hiding out.
The visas held by those 31 pilgrims have already expired – the department warns if they don’t come forward they’ll be deported.
