Camera sold on eBay contained secret al-Qaeda files

A digital camera containing secret information obtained by the UK’s MI6 organisation, about al-Qaeda members has been sold on eBay.

A 28-year-old delivery man from the UK got more than he bargained for, when he paid a mere £17 ($38) for the Nikon Coolpix camera.

The memory card on the camera still contained names and images of suspected terrorists, and log-in details for the Secret Service's computer network

The buyer immediately contacted police - they are investigating the possibility that an MI6 agent is responsible for the mishap.

Police urged the man not to tell the media about his findings, but the story has already been leaked to a number of major publications in the UK.

"[Contents are] MI6 documents relating to an operation against al-Qaeda insurgents in Iraq. It’s jaw-dropping they got into the public domain,” author and journalist Neil Doyle told The Sun.

"Not only do they divulge secrets about operations, operating systems and previously unheard-of MI6 departments, but they could put lives at risk."
