I needed change for 2012 Olympics: Libby Trickett

1/10/2008 10:21:00 AM.  | AAP
Triple Olympic gold medallist Libby Trickett says she needed to change coaches to stay motivated as she prepares for 2012 London Olympics.

Trickett has confirmed she's splitting with long-time mentor Stephan Widmer in Brisbane and moving to Sydney to train alongside fellow swim sprint world record holder Eamon Sullivan's under his coach Grant Stoelwinder.

"For me to commit to four more years, I needed new challenges and new stimulus and I think that's what this will bring for me," Trickett said today

"It has been on the cards for some time and I figured it was time to make a move and time to make a change if I was going to stay fresh for the next four years.

"I had discussed the situation with Stephan after Beijing and it is something that has been on my mind for some time."

Trickett paid tribute to Widmer's contribution to her career success and rejected the notion that her move was partly due to butterfly rival Jessicah Schipper's decision to join Widmer's squad.

She says she needs new challenges and new stimulus as she starts the four year cycle to the London Olympics and also believes she and Sullivan can boost each other performances.
