In an unprecedented discovery, NASA's Phoenix Mars Lander has found snow falling from clouds on Mars.
Scientists say a laser instrument collecting data on how the atmosphere and surface interact on Mars detected snow from clouds about four kilometres above the spacecraft's landing site.
The data found the snow vaporised before reaching the ground.
They say nothing like this has ever been seen on Mars, and they'll be looking for signs the snow may even reach the ground.
It's part of their probe into previous signs of life since the Mars Lander touched down in the Martian arctic on May 25.
