A New South Wales couple accused of starving their daughter to death will face trial next month, charged with murder.
Despite failing to obtain legal representation, after sacking her solicitor last week – the 38-year-old mother has appeared briefly via video link in Newcastle Local Court.
She’s been committed to stand trial over the murder of her seven-year-old daughter, who was found dead at their Hawks Nest home on November 3 last year.
The girl weighed just nine kilograms when her body was found on a mattress in a room littered with faeces.
Magistrate Michael Morahan has ordered the mother to seek legal aid, and sort out her representation – while the Crown has tendered six volumes of briefs.
Her 47-year-old husband appeared briefly afterwards, via a video link, also facing one count of murder.
Both have been remanded in custody to appear in Sydney Supreme Court on November 7.
