A large grass fire has threatened a home and disrupted traffic on a major highway in central Queensland.
Fourteen firefighters worked to control the blaze which came within metres of a farmhouse on Brendonna Road, Calliope south of Gladstone this afternoon.
Gladstone fire station officer Barry Maluga said crews arrived at the Calliope blaze about 11.30am (AEST) today but had it under control by 4pm.
"It is no longer a threat to homes but we had to battle the blaze along the Bruce Highway," he said.
The fire was under control but still being monitored by crews.
Smoke from the blaze caused delays on the Bruce Highway.
Meanwhile, emergency crews also were monitoring another large grass fire that threatened homes in south-east Queensland.
Crews worked throughout the night to contain the blaze which began about 12.30pm (AEST) yesterday at Bald Knob, near Maleny, and approached to within metres of 11 homes.
However, Queensland Fire and Rescue Service area director Gary Seaman said his men were not breathing easy just yet.
"We are keeping an eye on it because we are expecting a lot warmer weather over the next three days and the winds are up in the Maleny area," he told AAP.
"It is smouldering at the moment and we are keeping our fingers crossed another fire doesn't start.
"The fire last night came right up to the back of houses. There were 11 homes under direct threat but our crews got on top of it and there was no damage," Mr Seaman said.
Up to 40 firefighters and two water bombing helicopters worked to control the blaze last night.
Mr Seaman said it was not known what caused the fire.
