Melbourne Storm chief executive Brian Waldron has launched an attack on the people of Sydney after suspended captain Cameron Smith was booed by fans at yesterday’s NRL grand final.

Smith – was banned for two weeks for a grapple tackle, ruling him out of Melbourne’s 40-0 loss to Manly yesterday – was subjected to boos from the crowd when his face was shown on ANZ Stadium’s big screen.

Waldron, who along with coach Craig Bellamy is facing legal action over comments made against the NRL judiciary after Smith was suspended, described the crowd’s actions as “a disgrace”.

“When Cameron Smith’s face came up on the screen last night, 80,000 people… 60,000 people booed him,” Waldron told SEN radio.

“I think if any insults are to be thrown, they should be thrown they should be thrown at the people of Sydney, because that was an absolute disgrace.

“To do that do a player that’s the Australian captain, whether it’s in jest, whether they’re full of drink, I don’t know what it is.

“I was disgusted in the crowd last night to do that to the Australian captain and they need to be told – I think (NRL boss) David Gallop should come out and make a statement about what a disgrace it is to treat the Australian captain like that.”

Gallop has appeared on Ray Hadley’s 2GB morning program today, but did not take Waldron up on his suggestion to berate yesterday’s grand final crowd, saying he cannot control 80,000 people.

Waldron shouldn't worry, after all Kevin747 was bood as well!

I normally don't like booing by any crowd; however; what does this imbo expect. It was him and his petulant coach that has escalated the whole thing to this level. If they aren't happy, withdraw from the 2009 comp and let Newtown back. Very simple. At least he was in deserving company with the booing though; the repairer of the worlds woes was also booed.

Actually he didnt comment on it all that much, from what was shown up here, it came down to Bellamy and Waldron?

Brian is correct and it calls into question the ability of the ARL to fairly administer the game.

Rudd should be worried morseso especially in his first lst term - notice the nervous laugh when the people booed him!

Posted by: RS ****, Sydney

Monday, 06 October 2008

WellThere is good reason why he be a worried morseso; Australia does not have a serving PM on our shores; he is letting Gillard and Swan do all the work whilst he is clocking up frequent flyer points; at our expence. This is why he has grown 2 clothing sizes since November. He is like a modern day "Where's Wally". Maybe one of the cartoonists could put together a book of photos and call it "Where's Kevvy"

RS and David Daniel No-Balls, as the late Peter Frilingos would say:- what do politics have to do with the football, you imbeciles? Pull your heads in, your dearly beloved Australian Idol [criminal] Johnny Rotten Coward was emphatically booed in unison too, ya know. The topic is in reference to Wally The Mexican Wanker Goose who has brought this game into massive disrepute with such banal inconsequential tripe which should be taken with a largesse grain of salt because he's simply a wanker!

not unusual that manly fans boo the k-man - north shore yuppies (winners w/ no class)

Posted by: simon strezlecki, woManly

Manly is not the north shore it's the northern beaches, get some things straight before you start calling people yuppies and classless... You my clueless one-eyed battler are just like school on the weekend.

Hell Man, I thought after Athurson and Quayle, Manly was stuck in a building refered to as NRL/NSWRL/ARL HQ? Is there really such a place? Wow. So now, How many titles have manly won since they came into the game? How many in the last 20 yrs? And in the last 10? How long did it take before they claimed their first?

Gallop cant control his own people to do the Job they're meant to do, properly, how in hell could he manage 80,000? As for Booing Cam Smith, not much sense to really is there? Then NSWelshmen have never enjoyed any real competition in the Game have they. How many Free tickets were needed to get the ground full? 50-60 thou? That nervous smile on KRUDDS face, was him hoping his Incontinence pad was holding up. I think He Shat himself when so many Booed him... lol

Where does this muppet get off? He blasts off at the game's administrators and cries "Poor Us" because he didn't like the legitamate decision to ban his captain for actions that have come under scrutiny for years from everyone in the game, then has the temerity to say the GF crowd acted irratonally and disgracefully by booing his captain. Swallow some cement and harden up mate.

Posted by: Tim Van Gestel, Mackay

Monday, 06 October 2008

Why is Waldon whingeing once again? Because he believes Sydneysiders should cheer him and his mates for their grubby tactics and incessant whingeing. OK.

Well said, David of Sydney and Tim of Mackay. As the saying goes:- "those in glass houses shouldn't throw stones", and it's a bit rich coming from a certified pelican. He certainly has the ability to talk the talk but fails miserably in attempting to walk the walk by cowering in that oversized ego-inflated sombrero. This is further proof that you don't need to have a long neck - nor a beak - to be a goose. I was also a booer from home so let Wally hunt me down for all I care, I'm scared.

If you were to ask Cameron Smith about last night, he would be fine by it because if we like to admitt it or not, this is sports entertamant and it is part of the sport. Cameron Smith has been around long anouth to relise this. If Brian Waldron can’t handle this side of sports entertamant, maybe he should find another job, I think a few US Banks are looking for new leadership.

Does anybody else see the irony in Waldron calling for someone else to say sorry?

Monday, 06 October 2008

Well well well, Wally Waldron yourself and Craig Bellamy have taught the Storm to grapple and choke the opposition, well champ guess what your team choked last night... By a massive 40 point margin!!! Who cares if smith is booed, he grappled a player and has been for sometime so he needs to be accountable for his actions, he should have been suspended for 6 weeks and sent off the spot, you got off way too lightly, however losing by the biggest margin even in gf history has to be carma!!!!

Actually it was the Melbourne fans (noisy lot) doin the booin at their Captain being so silly as to get himslef suspened. I was there!

Congratulations to Manly for winning but some of their fans if you can call them fans were extremely rude making gestures even around children and throwing beer onto them. What sort of example is that giving to real fans and their families. You might say all fans do this but adults should think before they leap.

get off your high horse..people in glass houses shouldnt throw stones...dirty grubb hopoate stuck his finger up peoples a#$es...and thats not grubby..you'll go down in history as the dirtiest tacklers .how many times has Matai faced the judiciary for careless high tackles and who was whinging for a lighter sentence.I'm an avid storm supporter and agree you deserved to win.playing a good game.so why the hell are you so screwed up and bitter then.enjoy your win 2009 is just around the corner

Storm, its because they dont like having a Melbourne side in their league. Especially one that gets to the grand final. Your side won, so why are you all getting so cranky about anything the losing side has to say. As for melbourne Storm being in the league, you all need to accept the only way to grow your game is to go national. Guess thats why the AFL get 100,000 plus at their grand final.

Monday, 06 October 2008

Sue, calm down! We accepted the Swans here (I am a Swan's supporter), we've accepted the Storm into the league. Bottom line is that as much as Sydney got envied by Melboune AFL clubs due to "special" treatment to help them get established, so too has the Storm had favoured "one Team Town" treatment. On the day, the best team won (I am also a manly supporter and have been since moving to Dee Why in 1973). All the whining needs to stop, so that we can focus our collective anger at Rudd the Dud!

storm supporter-Helloooo-news for you - Hopoate has been rubbed out of the game.Matai has copped his punishment without squealing like a stuck pig and making statements about the NRL judiciary and bookies. Matai has never engaged in a premeditated chicken wing and grapple ‘combo’ tackle. You guys were not just whipped you were absolutely humiliated-cop it sweet-it will be a very long road back for the Storm-they certainly won't be back in 2009- on no it will take a lot longer than that if ever they do get back to being the Premiers.

What "special treatment" Geoff? Is it being the ONLY club in Melbourne that makes it Special? If so buddy, get a grip. The league is talking about expanding, but in NSW??? When they talk about expanding up here to a 4th Team, they mean to Palm of some Crap team from SYDNEY! Like we want that. NSW guv "Secretly" did deal with NRL(nsw) For the FINAL to be Kept in SYSDNEY! Perhaps thte NRL should change its name BACK to NSWRL, plus a few! Refs cant ref and Judicairy isnt IMPARTIAL.Gee same same eh

Nick, the same "special treatment" as the Swans got in the AFL. Read my entry. I'm saying it happens in all "one team" towns.

Hey Storm supporter! Hoppa didn't play for Manly when he was suspended for 'bum poking'. Smith is not the Australian Captain and is over rated. I would like to see him behind a weak forward pack.

Storm; it is funny now the shoe is on the other foot;Melbourne erupted the first time another state won the arial ping pong final; they were not even going to hand over the trophy. Oh it is sooo easy to forget the little details. The thing that added to the loss was that fat whinging blimp Waldron taking the focus from his team; him and his obstinate coach stuffed it up for your team; concentrate your venim on them for the loss. As I said earlier though;I do not agree with people booing others.

Monday, 06 October 2008

Why does Waldron keep referring to Smith as the Australian Captain? Darren Lockyer is the Australian Captain. Smith filled in for two games while Lockyer was injured.

Posted by: Chris Duke, NSW

Monday, 06 October 2008

Chris it's the same reason they keep referring to Stewart as a replacement for Slater, who covered for Hunt while he had Knee probs! Amazing that Sicky ricky couldnt even remember to get that right. Now KITE wants Half of manly in the Team..LOL..he musta knocked his melon somewhere?

:)) heheee Geoff ok, I was waiting for a bite, a few actually. Congratulations Manly. Hey Geoff, still had 2 Vic teams in the Grand Final in Vic this year though. No, I am teasing you all.:)) In fact the AFL has briliant players from all over this huge country. Many who leave their home towns and states just to play THE game, AFL !!! Hey Des, but they did get to be premier's. heheheee....just enjoy your win Manly supporters, thats what it is all about.

Waldron - Smith attacked the head of another player which could of caused him serious injury - us Sydney siders think thats not right - might be ok in Melbourne but not here - no one likes a sore loser

Why hasn't Billy Slater's dangerous attempts to prevent trys being scored must have to come under the match review committees scrutiny after yesterdays grandfinal??. Use of the feet without first placing a hand on a player such as a trip is illegal. So I cannot see how a defender can legally lead with his feet with metal studs at a player in a defenceless position of scoring a try? I hope he gets a big sentence!

this bloke is a fool... go to any ground in the NRL and the opposition supporters will boo the other side... Cam Smith is the face of the Storm and because he used the grapple tackle, he is the face of that too.
