A 65-year-old Australian tourist has died in hospital after being assaulted at a beach bar in the Indian resort state of Goa, police say.
Indian Authorities have confirmed Australian tourist John Kelly had been visiting the resort state of Goa when he stopped in for a beer at a local bar.
The 65-year-old reportedly became involved in an argument with a waiter over how to pour a beer when he was knocked to the ground and beaten.
Deputy Superintendent Gundu Naik said although Mr Kelly was taken for treatment at Goa Medical College and Hospital, he unfortunately died ten hours later.
"He died 10 hours after the assault, while being treated at Goa Medical College and Hospital here," Naik was quoted as saying by the Press Trust of India news agency.
"He entered into an argument with the waiter which resulted in the altercation. The deceased was pushed down and assaulted."
Superintendent Bosco George said two waiters and a security guard from the resort have been detained.
Local media and police are reportedly treating Mr Kelly's death as murder.
