Carr's future in limbo

10/10/2008 8:29:00 PM.  | AAP
Josh Carr's AFL future remains in limbo after Port Adelaide failed to offer Fremantle a deal for the out-of-contract 28-year-old during trade week.

Fremantle, who offered Carr a contract extension earlier in the year, were notified by the 188-game veteran after the season that he wanted to be traded back to Port Adelaide where he started his career.

But the Dockers' hopes of securing compensation for Carr during trade week was dealt a blow when Port Adelaide announced they would not table an offer for the ageing midfielder.

Carr, who is currently overseas on holiday, is now likely to nominate for December's pre-season draft, where the Power have pick No. 4.

Interestingly, the Dockers have pick No.3 but are unlikely to re-draft Carr given his fiance is intent on a move back to Adelaide.

"We just have to sit down now as a club to work out exactly where the situation is," Fremantle general manager of football operations Chris Bond said.

"We need to sit down with the list management committee and match committee as well and just look at the situation and just see what it gives.

"I think this week has been about getting the trades done, that was the main thing.

"Now that the trade hasn't been done we're not going to make the call on it straight away, we don't have to."

Although coach Mark Harvey has declared that Josh Carr was a required player at the club, Bond would not reveal whether that was still the case.

"I'm not going to answer that until we've sat down and had a chat about it and we've got plenty of time to do that," Bond said.

Carr's decision to leave Fremantle was a bitter blow to the Dockers, who lost experienced heads Peter Bell, Shaun McManus, Mark Johnson, Jeff Farmer, Heath Black and Matthew Carr to retirement this season.
