Firefighters find pot worth $500,000

11/10/2008 2:00:00 PM.  |
Emergency crews attending a house fire in suburban Sydney have discovered a hydroponics set up growing cannabis worth an estimated $500,000, police said.

About 11.30pm (AEDT) on Friday firefighters were called to a house on Merrylands Road at Greystanes in Sydney's west.

"After the fire was extinguished, a search of the premises uncovered a number of cannabis plants and a sophisticated hydroponics set up," police said in a statement.

Investigations are continuing into how the blaze started and police are appealing for information about the occupants of the house and their activities.
