Sydney, Melbourne win World Cup qualifiers

13/10/2008 12:00:00 PM.  |
Sydney and Melbourne will host the Socceroos' remaining 2010 World Cup home qualifying matches, with Australia's game against fellow Group A favourite Japan to be played at the MCG.

Sydney will host the Socceroos' matches against Uzkebistan on April 1, and Bahrain on June 10, though which stadiums will be used has not been decided.

The re-match of Australia's 2006 World Cup finals showdown with Japan will be played on June 17 at the MCG.

Brisbane is preparing to host Australia's Group A clash with Qatar at Suncorp Stadium on Wednesday night.

The Socceroos, who are currently second in Group A, must finish first or second to earn direct qualification to the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa.
