Sarah Palin, the best known hockey mom in the world, has been met with an unexpectedly cold reception at a Philadelphia ice hockey game.

The Republican vice presidential nominee was at the Philadelphia flyers match to drop the puck, but was received with a roar of boos from the crowd.

A calm Palin managed to keep smiling through the ordeal, with seven-year-old daughter Piper by her side.

Earlier Palin said bringing her daughter was a strategic move.

"I've been warned that Flyers fans, they get so enthused, that they boo everybody at the drop of the puck," she said.

"But what I thought I'd do is I'd put Piper in a Flyers jersey, bring her out with me. How dare they boo Piper!"

How could anyone stick up for her? Is she that naive to think that any politician will be anything but booed at a sporting event? If she had of laughed it off, her stocks would have risen. But linking her daughter to the booing, not crediting the fact that booing was her and not at all for her daughter shows she is thin skinned and desperately inexperienced. She needs to come down from the wilderness and live in the real USA for 4years and have a crack at VP when she understands the real world.

As a daughter and raised by a single mother I am appalled with what Ms Palin has done. In raising me on her own, my mother made some mistakes and embarrassed me many times too with her antics, as we lived in a postcode perfect leafy old world town, without a supermarket and fast-food restaurants. But she would never have used me in this way for her own self promotion. (though my mother was a liberal. I think she choose to be a liberal to upset my grandmother, but that is another story.)

She has walked right into a trap of her own setting. She thought that by categorising all avarage Americans as hockey mums like her and joesixpacks like her silly husband toad she could hoodwink them into voting for hers. The fact that the Average Americans reject this viewpoint was visiable when they rightly booed her off an icehockey field. What an embarassing moment in the stupid womens life. i sure did have a laugh.

Palin's handlers are morons. The only thing stupider would have been dropping the puck in Montreal. It's her own fault for claiming 'hockey mom' status. If she is such a hockey mom then why did she go to Philly with a Rangers jersey that said 'Palin 08' (reported in the Philly Inquirer). She thought if she used her daughter as a public relations tool they wouldn't boo?? She could have gone out there with Santa Claus, Mother Teresa and Bobby Clarke and they still would have booed her.

Great to see this vixen get her just desserts after propping herself up for a mere self-aggrandising shot at her 15 seconds of fame, which reminds me a lot that smirking swine Costyucko with all his inflated arrogant nature and hollow rhetoric all to make the most laugh-worthy lamest pot shots at Labor, just as this lipstick rotweiler is at the Democrats. I would like to see these two stuck together in a lift. This would make for a compelling movie script if I ever did see one.

I cannot accept that Democrat supporters are so low. They pride themselves on being a party of inclusion, of being progressive. However, the behaviour of these Democrat supporters is insufferable. I am appalled that someone as lauded as Obama permits it. Maybe Biden is smart enough to be able to consider something better .. he had better hurry up. It looks as if the next US President will be Obama, a spineless nasty man, and his deputy will be a bad liar.

Er, McCain was happy to let Obama get labelled a “terrosist” by Republican supporters… until someone made a death threat. I think poor Ms Palin can handle a few boos.

Sad for you and too late now. The McConnist campaign started it. ANd most of the people, incluidng me in the ring booed her even though we were republicans. We will not support anybody who McConns the country. Should you be McCconned by anybody telling you that you are a joesixpack or a hockey mum, please boo them off and remember help is available at nearby voting station to rid them of on the 4th Nov.

I'm honestly get very confused when left and right arguments pop out, most especially when they are used to compare politics in two different countries. Even some of the Howard government's policies would be considered radically left of center in America, similarly the free ride bailouts going on in the states beggars belief when you consider they are being championed by a supposedly staunchly right wing executive. Palin was booed because she was a politician at a sports event, and rightly so!

I was at the game. funny how the media only reports the boos. There were actually more fans applauding her than booing her when she dropped the puck but so far, no one has reported that. ????

Exactly, I wonder how many of Obama's rent a crowd were there. As for the just deserts comment above, what a blind fool you truly are. Your hatred of Bush is so illogical that you are prepared to put in the main job a man who has no executive experience, who has dealings with shady characters and whose own wife hates her own country. If this novice does win office, how divided America will truly be. Unbelieveable, the man associated with a church who hate the white man. Bye bye USA

Boo Hoo? The woman was only chosen to run with mcmoron so as to pull up a Hopefull 7mill votes through the Evangelist/christian movement. The fact these people are known to be POINT voters, Not Party voters. palin is known to want to over turn the bill of "73" giving women right of law over their OWN bodies. The Christian Movement want this so as to STOP abortions. What a waste. Mc War on , has stated he knows jack about economics. Perhaps he has a Goldman Sachs banker for that, Just Like BUSH!

Add to that a lot of our advanced mathmatics and basis of science came to us via the Islamic world, which they carried on from the Greeks, after the Crusades. If you lived in Russia, I am sure they would claiming that all technology was Russian developed, no surprise that we are feed the lie that US is the source of all tech. If the US had its way, we would teaching that the earth is only 8k years old and dinosaurs and man lived together. And god (christian god, one and only) created the earth.

Tinei Tagarisatose, Lusaka! Never underestimate the USA. The American dream will NEVER fade. The Europeans prefer the American dream not the Chinese dream. The Chinese are busy stealing American ingenuity and technology, their people are light years away from US sophistication. Don't discount the US. They didn't get to where they are by giving up or giving in to the socialist/communist mentality you possess!

Thanks Pat for demonstrating why so many people have so little regard for the USA as a body politic. History is dead against you. If you had been exposed to a proper education, you would conceded that all empires fall. The USA is currently presenting in a posture of overextension militarily and financially. The Bush regime has left the place bankrupt in every conceivable way. Dream on Pat, dream on.

Dazza, thanks for the same old drivel you think presents as left wing, socialist intelligencia. The US overcame the depression and they'll overcome your socialism. Oh and don't forget, when the US tank, we tank. And god forbid if a terrorist attack occurs on our soil, I assume you will galantly offer to defend Australia instead of running away to China or Russia or even Cuba to hang out with your socialist mates?

Just a response to the same bankrupt anti-Obama spin you constantly regurgitate Pat. I assume from your comemnst that you will personally travel to Iraq and Afghanistan to spend the rest of your life in the service assisting the civilians whose lives have been destroyed by the USA military, digging up the landmines, collecting the cluster bombs, feeding the malnourished children, burying the dead.

"The Chinese are busy stealing American ingenuity and technology" Patrica - you're joking right? The Chinese invented the compass, gunpowder, wheelbarrow, paper, parachutes, rudders, chess, kites, printing, paper money, toothbrush, irrigation systems, lacquer, iron plows, crossbow, chemical warfare, water pump, fishing reel, the list goes on & on. It never ceases to amaze me how many people think that western civilisation created everything!
