Rice lets off steam over nightclub photos

15/10/2008 4:01:00 PM.  | LIVENEWS.com.au

Swim star Stephanie Rice has lashed out, after a mystery man photographed her partying in Thailand and sold the pictures to the media.

Photos of Rice letting her hair down at a Patong nightclub have today been splashed across newspapers – the 20-year-old describing it as being ‘really out of line’.

Rice was in Thailand for a relaxing holiday, hoping to have some down time after a whirlwind year.

“Some of those photos from Thailand were kind of frustrating,” Rice told News Ltd.

"This guy had asked for a photo with me and I said 'Sure, no problem', but then he kept taking photos of me having a good time with my friends.”

Rice was snapped dancing with friends, in one photo she appeared to have fallen over.

Rice expressed her disappointment that she is unable to act like a ‘normal’ 20-year-old without being scrutinised, on her ‘one night off in a year’.

I saw Ms Rice's wild, exuberant and uninhibited dancing and I fear she is sending a message to other young woman that they can have far more fun being normal than wasting their lives swimming up and down a pool!

Bit of a gooses statement isn't it Paul, for how do you think she has got to where she is? - swimming up and down a pool! if you didn't know and certainly not wasting it, and doesn't that send a message of if you're prepared to put in the hard work there can be rewards and hey outside of swimming I am also a "Girl just wanting to have fun" and full credit to her for what she has been able to do, and the again as well as some cretin invading privacy we have the media supporting that.

We burn them up, sporting heroes, and when they no longer please us we dump them and they spend the rest of their days psychologically and physically damaged, which is to say our emphasis on sporting prowess is unhealthy!

Why do people care so much about what theses individuals get up to...I couldn't care less is Stephanie Rice and co danced naked on top of the Sydney harbour bridge. I have better things to fulfill myself with.

When the govt is trying to introduce zero tolerance on drinking what message do these "sporting heroes" send out - she just wants to have fun - pleasssssssssssssse give us all a break - having fun doesn't mean drinking yourself to a stupor does it - falling down in a heap like a sack of pototoes or does it? fun sure but stupidity no!! wasn't the big idea of having money given to sporting clubs to send a message out there - this type of behaviour only sends out the wrong messages to young kids! These are sporting personalities not just the kids next door who just carry on and end up losing their lives - it would be better for Rice to bring out positives instead of her negative behaviour wouldn't it - how about letting out her frustrations when visiting the homeless or those drug or drink affected in hospitals or the sick kids who have no future - I'm sure her attitutude to drinking would change dramatically!

Please RS, first of all, where is the proof she was in a drunken stupour? Fall down like a sack of potatoes? No, there's only evidence that she was on the floor, you have no idea how or why. She should set a positive example to children? How about the 3 Olympic gold medals she earned? And as for exposing children to this 'bad' behaviour? When was the last time a 10 year old read through Livenews.com or read a newspaper cover to cover? They're not being exposed to anything of the sort.

I F only - but for - don't give me the third degree - photographs confirm her fall - the look on her face says it all! enough evidence or still not enough for you!First and foremost live up to the standards of a professional (if that's what they are classed as) - it doesn't give them a free ticket to do as they please or does it?This person is supposed to live up to a professional sports code and standards and reflect that upon the community - if you don't agree it's your view on the matter!

RS you make outlandish statements on a public forum and you're peeved when someone questions your interpretations. A 20 year old goes out to a bar in Thailand and you think it's reasonable that she gets lectured about how she should conduct herself by people who don't know her and who don't even know what actually happened?

I F- you have made no comments relating to my statements except to claim I make "outlandish statements on a public forum" Peeved? I think not! - I think you are peeved as you cannot understand logic! I F only you could understand that this is not just a 20 year old! I F- this 20 year old is a professional sports person and is in the media because she is - I F you really need to understand that this 20 year old should live up to some responsibility because as some other wise person on here stated that we actually pay taxes for this 20 year old- I F-for what its worth here also is my 2 cents worth! (love that line Clarry great work)! Sorry if I hurt your feelings however they are directed at the person behaving badly not you - if you wish to defend that type of behaviour from a role model well so be it - I F- but as you say this is a public forum!

" We burn them up, sporting heroes, and when they no longer please us we dump them and they spend the rest of their days psychologically and physically damaged, which is to say our emphasis on sporting prowess is unhealthy!" and what generalistic crap, for sure some sports people make headlines for the wrong reasons but then people in every walk of life also have problems, and if you have ever been at a highly competive level, you'd understand that body aging does drop performance.

You have got to be kidding me. You have no problem using fame to make money on underwear shoots but are unwilling to accept the inevitable scrutiny the public will inflict upon you? Who are teaching these people about the trade offs of fame? Welcome to the jungle.

your right Mik of Brisbane,if your willing to use the media to highlight your profile...(didn't know who Steph Rice was before the undie ads ) then you have to expect the interest to continue.no one jumps a fence without knowing whats on the other side do they.

Those pictures are hilarious. No wonder she's 'slightly' peeved...If she didn't like them then don't get smashed for the camera! Australian people also fund your swimming so we technically owe Stephanie Rice's ass... :) My 2 cents

Leave her alone she seems to be just having fun with here friends. There are no reports of misdeeds so she should be entitled to her privacy and she was inside a club. The photographer deserves a kick in the nuts maybe she can take a Thai boxer with her next time as a bodyguard.

Whilst I never approve of the sleazy media prying into celebrities private lives; if she just stayed as a swimmer; her claims would be founded. However; once you hold out your hand for the money after hitting the media and promoting yourself as a celebrity; you are fair game from that point on. You can't have it both ways. Stephanie has accepted the money and promoted herself as a celebrity; knowing full well the consequences of public life; no sympathy; no matter how sleazy I think it is.

I saw first hand Stephanies behavior in thailand at the Banana Discotheque in Patong beach, Also on Soi Seadragon and Tiger Discotheque. I was there that night and i remember that white dress. More to the point; She's lucky i dont send my photos in. I have some rippers that the media would be all over such as her being groped or pashing another girl, dirty dancing and random drunken behavior. What happens in thailand is supposed to stay in thailand. Leave steph alone. She's only a pup
