NSW Nationals MP Andrew Fraser had apparently been at a Christmas party before a late-night incident in Parliament, where he shoved a female colleague.

Mr Fraser has stood down from the Shadow Ministry after last night's controversy.

He was caught on camera shoving fellow Nationals MP Katrina Hodgkinson.

NSW National Party Leader Andrew Stoner admits he doesn't know if Mr Fraser was drunk.

“I wasn’t with him during the course of the evening – I know he attended a New South Wales Farmers’ Association Christmas drinks,” he explained.

“I saw him later in the evening in the chamber. I didn’t observe the incident. So frankly I don’t know if had been drinking and - if so - if that had been to excess.”

Disgraced NSW Nationals MP Andrew Fraser has quit the Opposition front bench, after shoving a female colleague in a late night sitting of Parliament.

Mr Fraser has just apologised to Parliament and resigned his position after being caught on tape shoving fellow Nationals MP Katrina Hodgkinson.

“I brushed my colleague's arm aside inappropriately,” he told the Legislative Assembly today.

“As a result, I’ve apologised to my colleague and I apologise to the house.”

Fraser told Parliament his behaviour was animated because the Government tried to gag debate on an amendment.

It's not the first time Mr Fraser has been thrust into the spotlight.

He was suspended from Parliament in 2005 and demoted from the Nationals for launching at Labor's Joe Tripodi.

I have looked and looked at this - and i'm not so certain that he did something wrong. She had her arm on him - and he removed it, albeit a little roughly. If this was a mans arm on a women and the women moved it off, i don't think there would be a discussion. Either way - he's resigned so he thinks he has done something wrong ....and if he has good ridance. But I know if I was angry and someone had there hand on my shoulder (which is completely inappropriate), I'd forcibly remove it too!

Dont think theres too much in it myself CL.More the point in this is the suggestion of alcohol being involved with Fraser who has some form.MP's must have more control in parliament than to put themselves in the position in the first place.I have always held the view these matters are better sorted out in the carpark where there are less cameras.

Why can't politicians just admit that they stuffed up & get on with it? Rather than, :The Goverment made me do it by gagging debate!", could have Mr Fraser said "I stuffed up, had a few bevvies & I am sorry!" Case closed, a little harm done but no biggie...

I still can't work out how the press let Tripodi get away with chuckling over the deaths of people on the hume highway. I know Fraser trasngressed, but one needs a sense of proportion.

Wacko Ball, every senseless comment you make, you have to dredge the Labor Party into something that doesn't directly involve them, nor even cop a mention in news articles. Your closet indecent obsession (from your unemployed digs) is mindboggling and should cease forthwith before you hurt someone, idiot! Both Andrew Stoner and Fraser should hang their collective heads in shame and is this their alternative policy to the incumbent Goverment? Methinks not, with their attutide, most unlikely.

If Fraser has a drinking problem that explains why he should not have a front bench position. The point remains as to why Tripodi was not taken to task for chuckling over the deaths of road victims.
