Motorcyclist killed in truck collision at Pymble

3/12/2008 7:24:00 PM.  | Joel Labi
A motorcyclist has been killed in a sickening collision with a truck in Sydney's north shore, bringing traffic to a standstill.

The crash has happened on the corner of the Pacific Highway and Telegraph Road in Pymble - northbound lanes are blocked.

Traffic is being diverted around the crash site.

Paramedic Fiona Kruit says the passenger on the motorcycle was also badly injured in the smash.

"A second person on a motorcycle's been transferred to Royal North Shore hospital in a serious condition."

I'm told paramedics refer to motorcycists as 'organ donors.' It is an inherently unsafe method of travel. Cheap .. but dangerous.

The riders arent the problem here, ive seen first hand that drivers cut them off, squeeze in front, drive dangerously around them. There are no more idiot riders than there are drivers. If all teh drivers stopped thinking they need to teach the riders a lesson, the roads would be a safer place for them to be..

As a truck driver and a bike rider I'm not surprised to see this coming. I won't point the finger at the moment as we don't yet know who's at fault but it scares me the number of times I've come close to collecting a bike under my truck when some of these "Evel Knievels" dart in front of me and think 20 tonnes of truck can stop on a thruppence...plenty of cars too for that matter. Part of getting a licence should include spending a day riding in a truck to see what hazards we have to avoid.

happy fun ball - please remember that someone just lost there son/brother. Motorcycling can be dangerous because car drivers dont look out to see whats about. And yes I ride a bike and drive a car. Lez - sorry but if you cant stop your truck in time for something, then it means you are travelling to fast for the conditions. Remember that idiot truck driver in the M5, he whinged that the car stop too fast in the tunnel so he couldnt stop in time, it was proven he was just travelling too fast.

D.S, clearly you have no idea. It's not a case of travelling too close. It's a case of thoughtless drivers/riders suddenly changing lanes in front of a fully laden truck and then slamming the brakes on because they also cut too close to the car in front. It happens all the time. I keep plenty of distance between me and the vehicle in front but others seem to think it's an invitation to hop over and close up the gap. Kudos to those truckies that can stop in time to avoid these morons.

My partner and his family were the best of friends with the rider who died.People need to watch out for motor bikes....its so hard to judge what it will take for the rider to slow down to avoid collision if a car pulls out in front of them, does it really that make that much of a difference to wait until they have passed? Well yes it does, its usually the riders taht come off second best. These accidents happen because other drivers are constatnly cutting them off and cutting in front. LOOK OUT

My mister has 2 motorbikes, 1 to ride to work, 1 to enjoy riding. when he is on the work bike (postie) people always try to get in front of him, or don't see him (even with bright colours on). When he is on his Harley he doesn't seem to have any dramas....i find this very interesting!!!!

hurt my mister, maybe it's because you can usually hear a Harley before you can see them,I know that with most jap bike's you don't hear or see them until they go past and usually they scare the shit out of you when they do..

Thats half the prob. with Jap bikes. Too fast for their own Good. The acceleration abilities of the Hyper bikes is ridiculous. Good for the track, not for cities. At least with Harleys they take a week to wind up.( most) The jap bikes today are GP quick, the Hyabusa recently got governed, now it only goes 300 kph. Gee good thing they dropped 12 k off it, that'll make a difference. As a Bike rider, I urge all who haven't, to go do a defensive rider course.they make a difference.

If everybody would just slow the F*** down, things like this would be rarer. I ride and I drive, IMHO the fault lies with Civilisation in the whole. Everyone is blind to humanity, no patience, always going flat out like they're late all the time. I've been collected once to date, right of taken, the bloke apologised" sorry mate, generally I look both ways".? WTF?!! This seems to sum up the pop. in general. Phones, music, kids everything taking concentration. Back up people, breathe concentrate

My brother was the rider that died in that accident. HE WAS NOT AT FAULT... The driver was driving a 4x4 ute and he pulled turned across the lane my brother was in to turn into a drive way... The driver is being charged for neg driving and manslaughter - i hope he rots in jail.
