O'Farrell denies being in pockets of pub barons

There have been fiery scenes in State Parliament today, after controversial new liquor laws passed without the Oppositions' support.

Coalition MPs voted against tough new laws in Parliament overnight, which force 48 of the most problematic venues to restrict alcohol sales and enforce a 2am lockout.

But it was that decision that sent sparks flying from Premier Nathan Rees.

"You are a joke – you are in the pockets of your mates at in the pub and the club lobby," Mr Rees said.

Mr O'Farrell has told 2GB's Philip Clark he only tried to vote against it because it wasn't fair.

"What they did yesterday was the same as what they did with Luna Park three years ago, was legislate a way individuals rights to take legal action."

Nine Sydney venues went to the Supreme Court challenging their existence on the list in the first place - but seven have now pulled out.

So now on his first opportunity to show where he actually stands on an issue Fatty O'barrell is a failure. This whining overweight gibberrer thinks the people of NSW want pubs trading hrs unchecked. At the same time one of his perrenially drunken shadow mininisters is wandering around parliament shoving female members. And from his own side. The dopey right should be reminded why NSW voted for LABOR last time .Its because the oppn are worse.

So one can say that Bob Carr and Morris Iemma were in the pockets of the Hotel Industry for not bringing in these laws earlier. Carr also broke a 50 year tradition by granting poker machine licenses to the Hotels-it would be interesting to check the donations received by the Labor Party for a few years either side of that decision.
