No need to breath-test MPs: Della Bosca

The push for breath-testing of all MPs before they enter NSW Parliament, doesn't have the support of the Health Minister.

NSW Opposition Leader Barry O'Farrell has backed the suggestion, which came after the resignation of Andrew Fraser for shoving a colleague on Tuesday night.

But John Della Bosca has told 2GB’s Jason Morrison, it should be about personal responsibility.

“Random breath-testing is only appropriate for certain kinds of workplaces," he said.

“My view is that you should always be sober and careful and clear-headed on the job. Especially in a job like a Parliament.”

Mr Della Bosca, I hope you're not suggesting that MPs are to be above the law. In short - Della Bosca, Foxtrot Oscar!

Nothing surprising here. This imbecile would naturally think the laws passed to stop mortals for drinking on the job, would be ludicrus to have to follow. In fact this particular pollie is becominig a discrace to the human race. i would love to see things from his point of view, howvere i dont think it's possible to get my head that far up his A&**

It would not hurt to breath test politicians. Why not ? They should not be affected by alcohol at work. It is a sackable offence in some professions. Due to his track record I dont think John Della Bosca is in the position to comment.

Are you worried Della? Something to hide? Maybe that's one reason that this State is in such a mess!!

They should be tested, and not just for alcohol but for all legal and illegal drugs that could affect their performance. There should be a limit of zero and a policy of zero tolerance. Half the problems in this world are caused by politicians under the influence.

What NSW politician Fraser did [Physically move a female politician aside] is nothing compared to Federal politician Bidgood taking photos of the man who poured petrol on himself and then selling them & pretending he was going to give the money to a charity. Yeah right. I don't approve of Fraser handling the female colleague but it was a minor matter between Fraser and the colleague, not the hanging offence he was dealt. Barry O'Farrell should have followed Rudds lead & have him issue an apology

In Stalin's Russia, street-crime was virtually non-existent? Think about the liberty of being able to walk around the streets unmolested by thugs and backpackers ! People behave poorly in public and they should be punished. There's not enough respect shown to other users of public places, leading to a coarsening of our society. If people want to drink alcohol to excess or engage in other types of potentially anti-social behaviour - then do it at home.
