YouTube has announced it will crack down on “sexually suggestive” videos in a bid to restore the website’s reputation – but critics have labelled the new restrictions a toothless tiger.
While the popular video-sharing site already bans pornography it says it will be imposing tougher standards on “mature content” and “tightening the standard for what is considered ‘sexually suggestive. ’”
The google-owned website claims any remaining sexually suggestive content will be age-restricted which means it will only be able to viewers who are 18 or older.
YouTube will also stop featuring sexually suggestive or profane content in “Most Viewed” or “Top Favourited” categories.
However many have shrugged off the new measures countering the site does not ask users to prove their age and is therefore simply an honesty system.
